Waverly Teachers' Association Scholarship
This scholarship is given by the Waverly Teachers’ Association to a deserving student in the current graduating class who has been enrolled in the Waverly School District for at least the last two years of their high school career. In addition, the student should be pursuing a degree at a 2 or 4 year college in a service field. Preference will be given to those entering the education field.
Application forms are available in the high school Guidance Office, Senior English Teachers, or Econ/Pig Teachers. Application forms need to be returned to the Committee Chair by May 16th. See Application for details.
The WTA Scholarship will be funded through the WTA membership, and the amount will be determined each year in the WTA proposed budget. The 2025 scholarship amount is $400.00

Michael & Ann DeSisti UNICO Scholarship - April 25th, 2025 Deadline UNICO Foundation Scholarship Application Introduction: The Sayre Chapter of UNICO sponsors a combined 4 year scholarship consisting of the Michael & Ann DeSisti Scholarship and the UNICO Foundation Scholarship. Eligibility Requirements: 1. Students must: a. Be a member of the senior class b. Be eligible for graduation c. Be able to show proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university d. Enroll in the specified college/university in the summer or fall of the year graduated from high school e. Major in Special Education, Occupational or Physical Therapy, Nursing or a related field and plan to enter into a career working with people with disabilities. 2 . Eligibility shall be based upon scholarship and financial need. 3. Any member if the immediate family of a UNICO member is not eligible. Limit of Scholarships: The Michael & Ann DeSisti Scholarship is a 1 year award paid in the students freshman year. The UNICO Foundation Scholarship is an award paid in the remaining 3 years. The Scholarship is $8000 divided into 4/$2000 payouts. The award will be paid at the beginning of the 2nd semester each year, and will be made payable to the student and the Financial Aid Office of the college/university to which the student will matriculate. Leprino Scholarship The Leprino Foods Waverly plant is pleased to offer their annual $1,000 Scholarship to one graduating Senior at each of the following schools: Waverly High School, Sayre High School & Athens High School. Students must be entering College or a Trade School for the Fall 2025 term, carrying a minimum 3.40 GPA, and pursuing a degree or certification in: Dairy Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering or Maintenance areas. MILDRED FAULKNER TRUMAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship fund is to be awarded in memory of Mildred Faulkner Truman who was a lifelong resident of Owego and whose vision was to establish a Foundation to benefit the residents of Tioga County. The scholarships are to be given to three high school seniors who plan to further his/her education, demonstrates a financial need and community involvement and who will receive a diploma from the Waverly High School in June following receipt of application. Up to three scholarships will also be awarded to students who have enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and will begin their service upon high school graduation. THE AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP The Advisory Committee of the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation will determine the amount of the scholarship to be awarded at its first meeting in each year. The Scholarship Committee shall be notified in a timely manner and shall reimburse each student awarded the scholarship as an offset to a paid tuition receipt. The students receiving the scholarship for their service in the United States Armed Forces must provide proof of enlistment. The education scholarship award will be for three selected students in the amount of $1,000.00 each. Wright Family Scholarship - Community Foundation Arthur DuBois and his spouse, Phyllis Wright DuBois, through their generosity left funds in their Will to provide this scholarship to graduating seniors from Waverly Area High School. Phyllis a graduate of Waverly Area High School. Eligibility Criteria: Graduating senior from Waverly Area High School. This scholarship is open to students who have successfully obtained a NYS CDOS Commencement Credential and are pursuing a college degree at either a 2- or 4-year institution that culminates in an associate or bachelor’s degree. Complete an essay (200-250 words, double spaced) on how your education has contributed to who you are today. Accepted into an accredited university or college in the United States. Katherine P. Kerrigan Scholarship -Community Foundation This scholarship was established by Thomas W. Ward and Leslie Kipp, god-daughter of Katherine, from the estate of Katherine P. Kerrigan. Katherine was a graduate of Barnard College. She traveled all over Europe as a tutor for an American family, the Plankingtons, in the 1920s. She taught at a number of schools and veterans’ associations, both to children and adults, on a whole range of subjects. She returned to Waverly, NY when her father became ill. She was involved in community affairs and had great interest in public education and its improvement. Eligibility Criteria: Graduating senior from Waverly Central High School. Must be enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college, university or trade school in the United States. R. E. Fraley Technology and Engineering Scholarship - Community Foundation R. E. Fraley left funds in his will to provide for scholarships to be given to two (2) students at their graduation from Waverly Central High School each year. Pursuing a degree in technology or engineering This scholarship is merit based. Donald E. “Coach” Ennis Memorial Scholarship - Community Foundation Following his game plan, this scholarship was created in honor of Donald’s unwavering dedication to education and athletics and will be awarded to a Waverly High School senior who participated in Waverly Wolverine Athletics. Donald, a proud native of Waverly, NY, graduated from Waverly High School before earning his master’s degree in education from Ithaca College. He began his teaching career in 1962 at Gorham, where he taught Physical Education at all levels, from elementary through high school. Among his many accomplishments, he established the football program at the Gorham School, which he continued to develop at Marcus Whitman. After a remarkable 36-year teaching career, Donald retired in 1998. His passion for Physical Education, however, extended beyond retirement, as he became a dedicated Strength Coach, mentoring both students and faculty. Beloved by countless students and athletes, Donald’s impact as a teacher, coach, and mentor is immeasurable. This scholarship honors his legacy by supporting the educational journey of a student who embodies his values of perseverance, teamwork, and dedication. Eligibility Criteria: Graduating senior from Waverly High School and a participant in Waverly Wolverine Athletics. Accepted into an accredited 2- or 4-year technical school, college, or university with a major in education or a sports related field. Donald & Linda Jayne Wrestling Scholarship - Community Foundation This scholarship was established by Donald and Linda Jayne for a Waverly senior who has participated in the wrestling program including the position of manager. Selection is conducted through the wrestling coach at Waverly Central High School. Eligibly Criteria: Graduating senior from Waverly Central High School. Accepted into an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university in the United States. Attach an essay (200 — 250 words, double spaced) that describes areas in your life where you have demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles either through your school, social or family life. Must have eamed at least an 80 grade point average while in high school. Carl & Charlotte Lovejoy Scholarship - Community Foundation This scholarship was established by Charlotte Lovejoy through her estate. Carl Lovejoy worked at Croft Ford in Athens, PA as a body repair technician, and Charlotte was employed by Ingersoll Rand. She was a former volunteer at Guthrie Healthcare and for many years she and her husband Carl delivered for the Meals on Wheels program. Eligibility Criteria and Checklist: Graduating senior from Waverly Central High School. Must be attending an accredited college, university or technical school. Essay (200-250 words, double spaced) on what makes you an excellent candidate to pursue the automotive field. Good academic performance in high school. Student must have demonstrated financial need. Preference is for automotive related studies. Alice Walker Cooper Family Scholarship - Community Foundation Albert & Doris Anderegg were dairy farmers from Verona, NY. Albert through his estate established this scholarship to honor his wife’s family. Earl C. Cooper, Doris’s uncle was the founder of Tioga General Hospital, and with his wife, Alice Cooper Walker, donated land for the hospital. Eligibility Criteria and Check List: Graduating senior from Waverly Central High School or its successor. Accepted into an accredited university or college. Complete an essay (200-250 words, double spaced) describing an experience in your life where you had to overcome a challenge. What did you learn from this? How could you share this learning with others? Preference for students pursuing a field in agriculture. Just a reminder that the SAT School Day is being given on Tuesday, 4/8.
Testing will begin at 8:00 a.m. - students should plan on reporting 15 minutes prior.
Testing will take place in the High School Learning Commons.
**Once testing has begun and the test day code and room code has been shared, students may not be admitted into the testing site. Any student that reports after this time, will not be able to test and will be directed to report to class.
Students will have 64 minutes to complete the Reading and Writing section and 70 minutes to complete the Math section for a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes of testing time. Each section is divided into two equal length modules, and there is a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section.
Bluebook has a built-in calculator, so students are not required to bring a calculator. If students are going to bring a calculator, it must be approved.
There are only a few things you really need to bring on test day. Best sure to bring:
A pencil or pen.
Scratch paper will be provided—do not bring your own.
Optional: An approved calculator. There’s a graphing calculator built into the app, but you can bring your own if you'd like. Extra batteries for your calculator and backup equipment—you'll have to ask for permission to access them. They can’t be on your desk during the test.
Optional: A drink or snack to have during a 10 minute break.
Epinephrine auto-injectors (for example, EpiPens) are permitted without the need for accommodations. They must be placed in a clear bag and stored under your desk during testing. For policies on other medications and medical devices, contact Mrs. Fish in Guidance.
Students are prohibited from bringing the following items on test day (unless they have an approved accommodation):
Electronic equipment including phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, wearable technology, cameras, recording or listening devices, or any other type of electronic or communication device except for their testing device used for the digital test and, if applicable, any assistive technology as part of an approved accommodation.
Books, reference guides, notes, compasses, rulers, protractors, dictionaries, highlighters, or colored pencils.
Papers of any kind.
Watches that beep, make a noise, or have an alarm.
Calculators that aren't acceptable.
Detachable privacy screens.
Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions.
Ear plugs.
Brimmed caps, which may be worn into the testing room but must be removed and stored under the student's desk during testing.
Note: Hoodies have to be down during testing.
Ear buds.
Headphones (unless approved for a screenreader/text-to-speech).
